Counselor's Corner

Beverly Public Schools continues to present the SECOND STEP curriculum this school year. This nationally recognized program is designed to promote social competence and reduce social problems. It teaches children to think about others’ feelings, to solve problems cooperatively and to manage their anger in a positive way. SECOND STEP is presented in the classroom making it available for all students providing continuity while supporting a positive environment here at Centerville School

Research has shown that home and school are the two most important social emotional learning environments. Parent trainings and family videos are available for parents to learn more about the program that encourages your child to cooperate and get along better with others. Gain knowledge of how to use these techniques at home to increase cooperation and decrease conflict.

The Second Step Program has been endorsed by the Department of Education and is grant funded. However, thanks to the Centerville School PTO we have been able to purchase a variety of books to be used in the classroom and a family video to accompany the curriculum.
